Each year our Association celebrates the Christmas season by sponsoring this wonderful program, which provides $150 each for up to 40 area children who come from less than fortunate families for a Christmas shopping spree.
The children are teamed up with pubic safety and emergency services heroes. Police Officers, Sheriff's Deputies, Firemen, EMTs and local Military Personnel take the kids to our downtown businesses and Wal-Mart to shop. Each child is assisted while they purchase Christmas presents for their loved ones and themselves.
Everyone returns to the fire station at the end of the Christmas shopping spree. Teams of community volunteers help bring it all together by wrapping and labeling each child's presents while they share a group lunch.
The children are chosen to participate in the program from all of the K-5 students attending school in Mercer County. The principals from each of the area schools provide the names of children in need. They are selected because our assistance will help make Christmas happier for the kids and a little less stressful for their parents.
All of the proceeds which fund the projects our Association participates in come from the following sources; our members, citizen donations, business donations, grants and fund raisers sponsored by the association.
