Water Lateral Repair Program & Sewer Lateral Repair Program
The City of Aledo is now offering both a Water Lateral Repair Program and a Sewer Lateral Repair Program to owners and contract purchasers of residential property within the City. Many homeowners do not realize that they are responsible for the water and sewer lateral lines that connect you from the main to your home. The City is offering the Programs as a way to reimburse customers from the unexpected financial burden of a water or a sewer lateral repair.
Program costs are $4.00 per month per water lateral for owner occupied property and $48.00 per year payable by January 1 for non-owner occupied residential property. Program costs are $8.00 per month per sewer lateral for owner occupied property and $96.00 per year payable by January 1 for non-owner occupied residential property.

Burning Regulations - Amendment - Ordinance No. 03, Series of 2012
Now that Fall is here the City would like to remind all citizens that it shall be lawful to burn leaves, grass or other vegetation so long as such materials are dry and do not produce a nuisance or a hazard; provided, however that burning of such yard waste shall be permitted on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday only. It is unlawful for any person to burn any leaves or other vegetation upon any city street, city sidewalk or in that portion of the right-of-way three feet from the edge of the street pavement. All such fires shall be attended at all times by a person of 18 years of age or older. Such fires shall be permitted during daylight hours only and shall not be placed within 20 feet of adjacement residences.

Public Notice - 2011 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report
The Annual Water Quality Report for the period of January 1 to December 31, 2011 is now available. This report is intended to provide one with important information about ones drinking water and the efforts made by the water system to provide safe drinking water. City of Aledo - Central Park Facility Rental Policy (Approved by Council 10/03/11)
The City of Aledo Central Park Pavilion and Bandshell are available for use by the public and private organizations. The following is a schedule of fees and policies governing the rental and/or use of the facilities: City of Aledo Special Event Application
1. Fees for Bandshell Rental: $50.00 use fee and $50.00 refundable deposit.
2. Fees for Pavilion/Grill Rental: $50.00 use fee and $50.00 refundable deposit.
3. If an organization or individual requests the use of both the Bandshell and Pavilion, only one non-refundable use fee of $50.00 and a refundable $50.00 deposit will be required.
4. Events not sponsored or co-sponsored by the City of Aledo will require a certificate of liability insurance listing the City of Aledo as additional insured for the event.
5. Should the renter fail to adequately clean the facility or should the facility be damaged beyond normal wear and tear, the deposit will not be refunded. If the cost to repair the damage is beyond the amount of the deposit, renter shall be liable to the City for such cleaning and repair costs. In such event, the renter shall reimburse the City upon demand for such incurred costs. Cleaning of the grill shall be completed no later than 8:00 am of the next business day at the completion of the rental session.
6.There will be a charge of $30.00 for set-up and breakdown and $10.00 per hour for Live Band Equipment use.
7. An "Application for Special Event" form must be received by the City of Aledo at least 30 days prior to event.
Burning Regulations - Chapter 5, Aledo Municpal Code - Section 5-2-1:
5-2-1: OPEN BURNING: No person shall cause or permit, except as herein stipulated, any open air, open fire burning of any item within the fire or corporate limits. It shall also be unlawful to burn any wastepaper or other inflammable waste matter, within the fire limits of the city, except the same be burned in some suitable iron or steel, or other substantial metal receptacle, or furnace, which shall be provided with grating under the entire surface of the bottom thereof, and with a substantial metal screen or covering over the top so constructed as to not allow the escape from such receptacle of any partially burned particles of such paper or other inflammable waste matter, or any cinders or sparks of sufficient size to constitute a fire menace to property. Such receptacle or furnace shall be compliant with the application regulations of the Illinois environmental protection agency.
COMBUSTIBLE REFUSE: Any combustible waste material.
HAZARD: Smoke, heat, flames or other condition generated by an open air, open fire that presents a clear, significant threat to the health, safety or welfare of the general public.
NUISANCE: Smoke, heat, flames or other condition caused by open air, open fires that unreasonably interferes with a right that is common to the general public.
OPEN AIR: All spaces outside buildings, stacks or exterior ducts.
OPEN FIRE: Any fire from which the products of combustion are emitted directly into the open air without passing through a stack or chimney.
1. This provision shall not be construed to prohibit fires of charcoal or nontreated or otherwise nonnuisance or nonhazard producing wood or wood product when utilized on private property or in public recreation areas relative to the consumption of food.
2. Nothing in this section shall be held to prohibit private individuals from setting a wood burning campfire for the purpose of the preparation of food or other accessory recreational use incidental to the primary, lawful use of the property in question; provided, such campfire is set in an adequate container assembled or premanufactured for such use and, if premanufactured, set according to manufacturer's specifications, or, a fire bowl of earth or other noncombustible of adequate assembly and construction, and, a minimum distance of ten feet (10') from weeds, grass or other combustible materials so as to present no hazard. Such fires shall also be placed a minimum of twenty feet (20') from adjacent residences and attended at all times by a person eighteen (18) years of age or older.
3. 4. Bonfires for the purpose of public or private school activities shall be permitted on school grounds and as further regulated by the Aledo fire protection district.
(C) Penalties: Any person who violates this section shall be fined not less than twenty five dollars ($25.00) nor more than one hundred dollars ($100.00), for each offense. (Ord. 10-20-08-1, 11-3-2008)
ANIMALS RUNNING AT LARGE: This is pertaining to CATS, DOGS, or any animals possessed, or kept by any person.
No animal or dog shall be allowed to run at large in the city at any time by its owner, possessor, keeper or custodian. Any animal or dog shall be on a leash when off the owner’s, possessor’s, keeper’s, or custodian’s premises where any such animal or dog is kept. The duty of an owner, possessor, keeper, or custodian of an animal or dog to keep such animal from running at large or to have such animal or dog on a leash at all times when off the premises is an absolute obligation.

Identity Theft Program
To comply with Federally-mandated regulations we must have an Identity Theft Program in place. Please Help us by bringing your driver's license into City Hall and signing a form. City Hall Office Hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
Water & Gas Meters
The City continues to replace or upgrade its utility meters with the new radio read type. The new meters will allow the City to read the entire city in an afternoon instead of two men over a few weeks. Contrary to rumors, the meters can't listen in on conversations, track phone or computers or invade your privacy in any way. The meters only transmit your water and gas usage. The City has estimated in the past that the difference between the amount of water pumped and the amount billed is up to 2,000,000 gallons a month. Much of this water "loss" may be attributable to old and malfunctioning meters. The City appreciates the cooperative nature of its residents and business owners, who have been kind enough to let our meter installers into their homes and stores.
Director of Public Works, Steve Moller, would like to request that all citizens please make every effort to keep yard waste out of the city streets, as this can potentially create blockages in the storm sewer catch basins causing water drainage problems.
Street Improvement Update
The City has been saving its Motor Fuel Tax money in order to do a more sizeable project in 2012. The City plans to spend $300,000 for road repairs and resurfacing.
TIF Money Available
Tax Increment Finance grants and loans are available for commercial building projects in the TIF District. Businesses are eligible for 50-50 awning grants and building facade improvements. Other types of commercial projects are also eligible. Please contact City Hall at 582-7241 for further information.
